rodarte fall 2010 ready-to-wear collection

One of my favourite designers has got to be Kate and Laura Mulleavy, designing sister duo extraordinaire from the incredible Rodarte. Their collections are so raw, creative, and inspiring, and their Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear collection is no different. I know I'm a little late on the bandwagon, but I definitely want to showcase this collection. I have to hand it to these girls, they know what they're doing.

Rodarte stated to have received inspiration for this collection from the troubled border town of Ciudad Juárez, and its night shift factory workers and the tranquility of sleepwalking. These two themes are definitely prominent in the fabrics and drapery of the clothing. The lace leggings and flowing chiffon is reminiscent of sleeping yonder and is almost nightgown-esque. The braided fabrics of the most darker toned outfits seem to mimic the landscapes and traditions of Ciudad Juarez. My favourite part of this collection has got to be the combination of beautiful draped fabric and dusty tones. The ribbons take the clothes up that extra step.

The details of this collection are astounding. I love the addition of the hung beaded pearls. Looking at the closeup shots of the makeup, the pale skin and lips as well as the grey lids do indeed hint at the idea of sleep. All in all, Rodarte's Fall 2010 RTW collection is breathtaking yet wearable. Definitely one of my top choices from NYFW.
